Matthew Haley is currently Assistant Professor of Music at Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, GA. At Brewton-Parker he directs the Wind Ensemble, teaches music theory, music history, music appreciation, and applied brass. Dr. Haley previously taught at the University of North Texas. His students from UNT have gone on to successful careers as performers and educators - performing on Grammy nominated recordings and holding teaching positions throughout the state of Texas. Prior to joining Brewton-Parker, Dr. Haley co-founded the “Freedom Song School of Worship and Music,” a music training program at a Christian men’s home for recovering addicts. Graduates of the program have gone on to successful careers as music ministers and leaders in their communities.

As a performer, he served in the United States Army, “The Old Guard” Fife and Drum Corps as a bugler. While in the Fife and Drum Corps, he performed for two US presidents as well as numerous foreign heads of state. Dr. Haley has also performed with the Dallas Opera. He has recorded with the North Texas Wind Symphony as part of the GIA Publications Teaching Music Through Performance Series and the GIA Publications Composer’s Collection. Dr. Haley can also be heard on Luis Leguia’s 2003 release, American Music for Cello (Albany Records). As a conductor, he has worked in master classes with Eugene Corporon (University of North Texas Wind Symphony), Dennis Fischer (University of North Texas Wind Symphony), and James Jordan (Westminster Choir College).

Dr. Haley holds degrees from the University of North Texas (DMA), the University of Louisville (MM), and the University of Texas (BM).
